Rob Dougan's instrumental stuff is great. Clubbed to Death, Furious Angels, I'm Not Driving Anymore......great stuff....definitely check that out.
Craig Armstrong is pretty good. He's a pretty accomplished composer who gets experimental sometimes.
I really like the Kronos Quartet, too. Their rendition of Barber's Adagio is my favorite. They did a mean cover to Jimi Hendix's Purple Haze, too.
If you liked the Luna Sans disc, check out Adiemus. It is virtually the same style. It's composed by Karl Jenkins with a great female singer who sings in a faux language (sound familiar).....Jenkins most famous song is the one used by the diamond industry in those "Diamonds are Forever" commercials. When you hear it, you'll know it...
I'll put some samples up on my server for you...give me a few minutes...

I like Estremoz but I think I prefer Lepcis Magna to it. Ulaid is my least favorite song and I usually skip that track when I listen to the CD. It's the only song I don't really care for but eh... that's just me. I've tried to like bag pipes, but can't... That's part of what I loved about this album. They managed to actually fit in instruments and get a general feel for the region in which the song was about. Look up each ancient city and where it is located...then compare the sound to the region it's in. Nothing says "giant ass volcano destroying a huge, populous city" like Pompeii, now does it? I just wish they made a song with Appalachian instrumentation. I want some fiddles and electric guitars.....it's the West Virginian in me.

I honestly think that Nineveh is possibly the most badass use of string instruments in the history of mankind. The cello players probably had the time of their life. Something about violins, cellos, base, electric guitar all jamming together at breakneck speed with some nice percussion in the background....just incredible stuff. I seriously put it up there with Barber's Adagio and Vivaldi's Four Seasons. Estremoz is definitely the most beautiful song on the CD though, IMO. The Spanish guitar...haha. But, man, when it starts to pick up around the 3:00 mark...I just have to shut my eyes and listen....

I can't believe it came out in 2001. I have a doctorate degree right now and it came out when I was in high school. Unbelievable how it stays so fresh for so long. Trying to compare it with the stuff you hear on top 40 radio stations is an exercise in futility. So much more emotion and complexity. I have probably listened to the entire album thousands of times....never once getting stale. What are your favorite tracks? Estremoz...Nineveh....Nara....Pompeii....I really can't pick a favorite.

It's not everyone's cup of tea, I've let friends I know listen and they aren't impressed. Some people just don't have the appreciation, or patience. That and you can't dance to it in a club ; ) (You could, but it wouldn't catch on that way either) Wow, I've had the opposite experience. I posted about ES on this pharmacist web forum I frequent and I got over a dozen inquiries about the group.

I'd like to know why this stuff doesn't catch on more. Everyone who hears ES is mesmerized. Straight mesmerized. Everyone. My parents, my wife, my mother in law, my friends, my internet friends. It just sounds so d**n great.

Not really new age...not really orchestral. There are others kinda like them, but they are very unique. I just wish it would catch on and more artists would produce more like it. I have a bad feeling I am going to have to wait 7 years for more.....

Not too much of a Globus fan. I bought their album and was disappointed. Rob Dougan and Craig Armstrong are some other folks I like who make the same style of music.

Hi! Name's Mike Frazier, I'm a 24 year old pharmacist from Morgantown, West Virginia, United States and HUGE E.S. fan. Due to the lack of a discussion forum on the net, I decided to set up this little thing to see if it would get any interest. Hopefully I won't end up talking to myself.

The more I listen to the Luna Sans album, the more I appreciate it's aesthetics. The remix album loses so much steam after track 7 that it frankly disappointed me. I can see what went wrong....you can tell the album was conceived from the perspective of making it an Adiemus-esque vocal album. Taking out the main harmonizing instrument (Luna Sans) will obviously make things screwy. Though it isn't my taste, the Luna Sans album is much more complete than the remixed album. Mosane is definitely the best example of this.
I'm not going to lie and say I like it more than Unearthed....but I can see what they were trying to accomplish. I'm not sure how old the brothers are....but you can tell that they matured a ton in between the two albums. Much more complexity and beauty. Unfortunate being that a huge portion of their fanbase is actually incredibly young (as in under 30). Too much intellectual immaturity to fully enjoy something that has turned into new age. I'll freely admit it, too. My tastes are not mature enough to enjoy this fully. As a spokesman for Gen Y...I think they might have lost us on this one. We want crazy, loud percussion beats, cellos and violins going nutso, and a high tempo. Think Nineveh. Par for the course for the ADD generation.

Anybody else see this review on CDBaby?
Kinda getting a lil' stalkerish there, eh? That's an.....interesting...review.
I kinda feel mean, I only gave it four stars....I might be the only one...
