7 years later and it's finally here.....after months of visiting that d**ned wikipedia page every other day waiting for more information. I can't believe the departure the brothers took in the feel of the album. Unearthed was so hard, so menacing. Cartographer is much more inspirational. It reminds me of Karl Jenkins' Adiemus project; from the string-heavy production to the vocalist singing in a made up language. My favorites so far are Mosane from the Luna Sans disc and Marunae Pi from the instrumental album (it kind of sounds like a remix of Nara from Unearthed, doesn't it?)

Ha! Those are my favorites too. I also really like Sollente and Isunova Pi. Originally I wasn't too sold on the tracks with lyrics but I'm warming up to them. Luna Sans has an incredible voice and I'd like to know where they found her. Wonder if she's done anything before? Glad this album is finally out, hopefully it won't take this long for another one.

I haven't received my CD yet, but do any of you guys know why they decided to drop 'Posthumus Zone' from the album? Ofcourse it doesn't fit into the whole "explorers from Numa theme" and their "language", but I was really looking forward to hearing a full version. And considering what you've said Mike, and from the samples of Cartographer I've heard, there doesn't seem to be any tunes similar to the hardness of 'Pompeii' or other faster stuff.
On first impression, it sounds as if E.S. Posthumus were inspired by all the 'Nara' fans that paid them attention, and totally ignored the 'Pompeii' followers... I don't always want to hear the uplifting happy-go-lucky sunshine stuff. Sometimes I'm in the mood for thunder and lightning. And there doesn't appear to be enough of that.
Oh well, maybe I'll change my mind when I listen to the album porperly... (the 2 versions of Selisona sound good though)

I named my cat Pompeii....he's the color of volcanic rock...a glossy black. But, no, there really isn't anything as hard as Pompeii on this album. Ashielf Pi and Marunae Pi might come close. AP is only 1.5 minutes long though. As soon as you get into it, it's over.

Agreed. It's often expected of a band's sophomore album to depart from some aspects of their debut. Not altogether surprising when that disappoints some folks. Count me as one of them. Without those harder faster tracks to punctuate the cd, it all sort of runs together.
Not including "posthumus zone" was in my opinion a big mistake if they don't now release it as a single. The first "bonus track" was clearly an arrangement of it's build up, but stops just short of the iconic part football fans have come to know. What really bothers me, is that they've withheld the song for so long and promised it, but then not delivered it nor mentioned anything about it. I can only imagine the decision came down to some licensing issue with cbs. They may not want there to be any version out there besides the crappy rapper-laiden version I got swindled for on i-tunes. If the public has a version of the whole song, we could make bad you-tube videos using it which would sully and wear out the branding value of the music. It's a pretty silly explanation, but marketing/advertising execs are just the sort of scum to make calls like that. The brothers vonlichten should find some way to leak it on the internet and make good on their promise.

AP is only 1.5 minutes long though. As soon as you get into it, it's over. But did you name your cat Pompeii before you new about E.S. Posthumus, or after...? I really am itching for this CD. By the way, did you actually buy the CD, or did you go the MP3 route on cdBaby? I only ask as I'm wondering what the packaging is like. Also, just out of curiosity, how are the songs formed. For instance, the tracks in Unearthed often sounded like they were actual instrumental songs which contained the usual verses, bridge and chorus. Are the tracks on Cartographer similarly fashioned? I haven't even got the album, and I'm already disappointed. I would have thought ESP (I'll call them that for now) would've been just as varied with Cartographer, as they were with Unearthed. As for 'Posthumus Zone', what you say about the licensing issue makes sense. It's a real shame. Sorry to hear about the whole Posthumus 'rap' Zone swindle on ITunes. Many others have shared your fate... Funny you should mention the bad Youtube videos. Click the link below... www.youtube.com/watch?v=sF4apSmm1uYObviously it's Youtube quality, and I've no idea if you've got/heard such an extensive version before, so I've uploaded the good quality version to the link below... download.yousendit.com/C6EE073077504B66 It's not the real Posthumus Zone, as there are bits contained in the version I hear on 'NFL on CBS' that aren't in this version. The beat should chop and change at some point but it doesn't. Anyway, this version is there if you want it, and haven't already got it. -

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I thought Ashielf Pi was Posthumus Zone, or just a new mix of it. I agree that some of the harder tracks are missing here. Odenall Pi on the second album comes pretty close though and has some hard hits. Isunova Pi also has a nice bit on the end of it that isn't included in the vocal version. At first glance this does seem like a softer album (and it is) but you really need to give it a proper listen all the way through with a good sound system or headphones a couple of times to discover it's beauty. It's still quite varied, but just in a different way. Although Unearthed and Cartographer are different they are both undeniably great.

If you have a myspace account, maybe you should advertise this group over there. I'm sure there are more fans out there that would like to join the discussion......it's just hard to find them.

I advertised in a facebook fan group, I think that would probably gain more interest than a random post in myspace. You could probably also post a link in a review on the CDbaby website for the Cartographer CD. Everyone going there to purchase would see it.
Quick question. Does anybody know which classical artists painted the images used for the two ESP covers? I'd really like to know.

I've given Cartographer a full listen-through, and to me it's missing the aspects of their first album that really appealed to me. It's missing intensity. I liked having a relaxing song, then a song with heavy drums/bass to mix it up and keep your attention. I find every song here just lends itself into the other, in a haze of slow-moderately slow beats.
Maybe it'll grow on me.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me, does any of the two Posthumus albums have it's back (or inside) cover with track listings on them (with font or look of its front where the title is written), or is it just the front cover with its painting for both mp3 and CD shipments from cdbaby for both albums? I know that I can't find Unearthed's back cover scan even now after so much time, neither can I find a place saying anything about it, so I thought that maybe they never made them.. I've scanned my copies for you... Unearthed back - Unearthed inside (with CD) - Cartographer back - Cartographer inside -
